In the past three decades Bahco have launched over 560 ergonomically designed and manufactured tools through their ERGO™ process, included in this are a Bahco’s range of utility knives. Bahco seeks to maximise efficiency, performance, and user comfort in all their tools – their range of knives are no different. When creating the first range of truly ergonomic knives, inspiration was drawn from the study of aerodynamics – the motion of air interacting with an object. Bahco’s knives are compliant with ISO 9241-210:2010.
Bahco ERGO™ knives go beyond cutting; the importance of design is equal to that of functionality as the tradesperson uses it daily. The grip offers the user a streamlined shape to provide comfort to the hand when working with repetitive motions. In addition, the design is adapted for varied positions and grips for both dragging and pushing pressures, which increases productivity whilst easing the work. Bahco ERGO™ knives are non-compromising products that combine functionality with design and guarantee great cutting with a firm and comfortable grip. To develop the ideal utility knife Bahco performed over 150 user tests with more than 50 prototypes.
Included in this range is the KERU-01 ERGO™ Retractable Utility Knife. It features a curved handle that allows for a variety of grips. This handle is set at an ideal angle to minimise muscle stress and is the optimal size and weight. It features an integrated button for smooth action and to shift the blade into three distinct positions along with two smart buttons, one to help replace blades easily and the other to help store blades without opening the body. A narrow head allows for maximum visibility and precision.
Complementing the ERGO retractable utility knife is the Bahco Squeeze Knife. This was the first product in Bahco’s range of knives and is still one of the most popular. Users maintain that it allows for the fastest blade change of all knives and features a housing that holds up to 6 heavy duty blades, making this all possible. Other features include a quick release button to remove blades, a comfortable handle with a thumb groove for better control, a press switch to close the knife, and a squeeze lever to load the blades.
The KE 18 – 01 ERGO™ 18mm Snap Off Knife features a blade centralised in the body with a closed front to simplify the blade snapping process. The curved handle offers a wide range of grips and is symmetrical in shape which allows for both left and right handed users. The handle is the optimal size and is made with aluminium with a comfortable TPR finish. The hatch at the rear of the knife is fixed to the body and allows for easy blade storage.
Bahco also offers tradespeople the KGRU – 02 Utility Knife ‘Classic’. This is a highly compact knife with a full aluminium body. The blade change and storage is available via a turning and unturning screw located in the middle of the knife and it features a magnetic holder that makes blade changes easier.
Bahco’s range of sports utility knives are the go to range for tradies who wants to get out amongst it on the weekends. These knives offer the tradie a great companion for any sporting activity where they would need a knife. Products include Bahco’s Sports Lockback Utility Knife, the Twinblade +sports utility knife, and the Twin Blade Sports Knife. They all have an aluminium handle (except for the polyamide on the Sports Utility Knife). They have a stainless steel blade and mechanism, and an unlock button to prevent accidental folding.
Bahco brings its uncompromising design and manufacturing process to its range of knives. It knows that when aiming to reach high performance, the focus cannot only be greater power, but also on efficiency.
